Umbria, a less known Italian region among the tourists and the couples who want to organize their intimate destination wedding in Italy, but a region that has so much to offer. Nature, culture, history, very good food and heavenly wine. Umbria is a region where intimate destination weddings can become magical and ethereal in hidden corners.

The green heart of Italy

In the south of Umbria, near Spoleto, we discovered an old elegant abbey that the current owners transformed in a hotel. The perfect place to relax without being disturbed by modern technology. Here you only hear the noise of birds singing, horses whinnying or sheep bleating, the wind blowing or church bells ringing.

History in Umbria

The abbey was built in the 8th century A.C. and has known a long and turbulent history of invasions, different popes and various monks before becoming a peaceful haven far away from our busy daily lives. Through this styled shoot we wanted to combine the modest character of the abbey with the elegance of the ancient nobility. We wanted to bring back the old elements such as lace, gold, calligraphy and give them a more youthful appearance.

Colour palette

The whole shoot needed to be mysterious, elegant and discrete. So black became the main color and the thread through the whole project. We combined it with peach and off-white.

Accessories

The bride wore a long tulle gala skirt combined with a lace blouse with long sleeves. There were no lovers and no stones on the clothes so that the attention wouldn’t be drawn away. We also limited the amount of jewelry to a bracelet, a pair of earrings and an old ring. We didn’t want an overload of shiny gold but refinement in every detail. The hair was very classic with a slightly modern touch. The make-up remained light with dark highlights around the eyes. We choose not to use any vivid lipstick or any too colorful eyeshadow as we wanted to accentuate the natural beauty of the bride. The groom had to wear the same colors: black, white and gold so that everything was in perfect balance.

Wedding cake

In the abbey you can visit the old church. As this is holy ground we decided to use the wonderful courtyard with the lovely stairs for the ceremony. We put candles and added some olive branches of the olive trees around the abbey. After the symbolic ceremony, the bride and groom enjoyed a piece of the black cake that we put on a gold cake stand in the center of that courtyard.

Styling materials

For the styling, we used the old furniture of the abbey: a long wooden table and different types of very heave chairs. We added a silk runner, antique bronze chandeliers with black candles, antique tableware with gold accents, silverware and crystal glasses filled with Umbrian wine.

Flowers

A great Belgian florist made all the centerpiece, the boutonnières and the wedding bouquet which were a true realization of what we had in mind. They fitted perfectly in the theme and in the whole setting.

Dessert

After the dinner, the bride and the groom opened the prosecco with a bang and enjoyed some delicious fruit that we put in a type of cornucopia. That whole day we were so lucky. It was warm, the sun shined, but shortly after opening the prosecco the sky suddenly darkened and the heavens opened. Thanks to the whole enthusiastic team we brought everything to safety without becoming to wet.

Stationery suite

A young Belgian artist who is as much in love with Italy as the whole team created the stationery suite. We used the stone table underneath the wisteria. The perfect place for the black handmade stationery suite and the gold jewels. We didn’t know that the tree was full of surprises and mystery such as a snake coming down and saying hello. It will certainly be a memory that will last a lifetime for everyone.

Love is in the air in Umbria
